Summer is here once again, which for most of us means traveling! People are excited to visit and get together with friends and family, often in exotic places that might lack pest control. While there is nothing wrong with going on exciting vacation in quality places far away from home, traveling usually requires sleeping in places other than your home.
If you ever need to stay in places that might not have the proper pest prevention measures, then you should make the effort to take care on your own. There is a rise of pests all over the world, and motels and hotels are their favorite places to stay at.
It can also be very expensive to get rid of pests and bugs if you happen to bring them home with you. Make your vacations and pest-free, so here’s how you can get rid of pests and bugs on your travels.
Do your research
Perhaps the easiest thing you can do that can have the most impact is doing a thorough research on the place or places you want to go to on your holidays. Before heading off to your holiday destination, it is a good idea to conduct some research about the place beforehand.
Find out what kind of pests you could expect to encounter in those places if there are any. It would also be a good idea to follow whatever pest control prevention guide the government or other people from that place may have set in place.
Nothing is going to ruin your holiday more than finding out about the local pests the hard way.
Bring a good amount of insect repellent
Probably one of the most irritating things you are going to encounter during your travels is waking up to a bunch of insect bites. Tropical places are abundant with mosquitoes that when left unchecked, will leave you littered with itchy bite marks.
That is of course, provided these mosquitoes do not carry dangerous diseases such as malaria fever or dengue fever.
You can prevent these annoying and potentially dangerous insect bites by remembering to pack a bottle of insect repellent with your things. Remember to constantly apply and reapply the repellent every day, as instructed on the bottle or packet.
Apply a good layer of insect repellent whenever you have to go outside or right before bed, especially if the place you are in has a lot of mosquitoes, and stay safe and comfortable while traveling.
Keep yourself clean
If you are familiar with any kind of pest removal or pest prevention at all, you should know that keeping a clean environment is one of the best ways to get rid of pests. Traveling is not an exception to this guideline at all; in fact, it should all the more be observed!
In order to get rid of pests such as cockroaches, ants, rodents, and flies, simply remember to keep your motel, hotel room, villa, or apartment clean by:
- Picking up after any spilled food or drink
- Throwing away any food that is not eaten
- Making sure garbage bins are not overflowing and are emptied regularly
- Wiping down surfaces like kitchen counters and floors
Always keep in mind that when you take an item from a different environment to your own home, you are potentially inviting any pest that may have stowed away in that object.
Be mindful of what you do in foreign locations and examine all the things you bring home with you. Staying vigilant will reduce the chances of bringing in pests to your home from your travels.
