Food in Australia is not something that is usually talked about because it is hugely overshadowed by the sheer awe-inspiring nature of the scenery. Australians are renowned for enjoying a barbeque. Whilst the stereotype of the ‘Shrimp on the Barbie’ may not be entirely accurate, there certainly is a great deal of truth in the perception of barbeques being everywhere. Joining a barbeque party, eating in a barbeque restaurant, or even cooking for your family on one of the many public barbeques are all great ways to get a good taste of Australia. The quality of meat for sale and the relaxed nature of a barbeque will leave you with a smile on your face and a belly full of food.
THE WINE REGIONS
Whilst not strictly food based, the wine regions of Australia certainly have some wonderful things to ingest. Taking a Hunter Valley tour will take you through the best wine growing vineyards in the area and this will certainly be a great place to enjoy your day. For lunch there are a number of excellent restaurants in the area where you can enjoy a range of Aussie foods and wines.
The seafood in Australia is wonderful because most of the population lives on the coast. This means that all of the fish is remarkably fresh and you can eat a fish alongside the ocean that it was caught in. Going to fish markets is also an option if you have somewhere to cook it in your hotel. The fish from the markets is unbelievably fresh and you will be sure to enjoy cooked seafood that you buy from anywhere else too.
