Gujarat is also well known for its lip-smacking food and beautiful handicrafts. But one thing that Gujarat had yet been not well known for was Dinosaur Fossils. Yes, Gujarat- specifically the village Raiyoli in Balasinor near Ahmedabad is globally known to be the third largest fossil site and the second largest dinosaur hatchery from where about 10,000 dinosaur eggs have been found till date.
The Dinosaur Museum Gujarat cum Park is the result of 22 years of efforts of the erstwhile princess of Balasinor, Ms. Aaliya Sultana Babi. These mighty giants walked the neighbourhood of her palatial home in Balasinor 15 minutes from the park. “Now more people will come to Balasinor Dinosaur Fossil Park because of the museum that is set to open its doors to the public soon,” says Aaliya excitedly explaining about the museum managed by Gujarat tourism.
Prominent paleontologists have verified that the fossils found in Raiyoli are the oldest among other such fossils from the mid-Jurassic period; carbon dating of the fossils has identified them as about 66 million years old.
