Top Travel Credit Cards in the Philippines


A good travel credit card is an essential companion for the wise traveler. In a pinch, if you find yourself lacking in cash in the local currency, you can use a credit card to make your purchases. You also have the chance to earn rewards and be eligible for promos and discounts.

There are several credit cards out there specifically designed with travel junkies in mind, and in this post, were going to feature five of them. Check out the top travel credit cards in the Philippines.

Citi PremierMiles Card

One of the biggest perks that Citi PremierMiles cardholders can look forward to is access to local and international VIP lounges in airports. This perk is available to cardholders regardless of what airline they are flying on and what their flight class is.

The holders of the Citi PremierMiles card also earn miles points for purchases using their card both here and abroad. For every P30 spent, a mile point is earned. These points can be redeemed for flights with over 60 airlines.

HSBC Platinum Visa

When it comes to earning air miles, the HSBC Platinum Visa card is one of the most generous travel rewards cards out there.

They have an accelerated reward program where every P25 spent is equal to 1 air mile. If you shop or dine locally, you get 3 bonus points for every P30 spent. If you use the card to make purchases abroad, however, you get 4 bonus points for every P20 spent.

Holders of the HSBC Platinum Visa card who use their card to pay for their travels also get free travel accident insurance of up to P10 million. You should also keep an eye on special discounts from over 180,000 partner hotels and resorts worldwide.

BPI SkyMiles Mastercard

BPI has partnered with Delta Air Lines on this card aimed at frequent travelers. By using their BPI SkyMiles Mastercard, cardholders can earn a SkyMile for every P45 spent. These SkyMile points don’t expire and are transferable, so they can be used to purchase tickets for others.

SkyMiles Points can be used to travel to over 600 countries via Delta Air Lines or their SkyMiles Airline partners. BPI SkyMiles Mastercard holders are also entitled to travel insurance coverage of up to 10 million.

BDO Platinum Mastercard

Frequent travelers who are also holders of the BDO Platinum Mastercard have the convenience of being able to use one card to pay in both Philippine Pesos and US Dollars. This means that, local transactions paid using this card with be billed in pesos, while international transactions can either be paid in the exact amount in US dollars.

You can still  opt to pay international transactions in pesos and this will follow the prevailing exchange rate. So, if the exchange rate is favorable, you might get a better deal.

The BDO Platinum Mastercard also has a reward program where you get a point for every P40 spent locally and every $1 spent internationally. It also provides you with access to over 1000 VIP airport lounges all over the world, regardless of airline or ticket class.

When charging travel expenses to this card, cardholders can get travel accident insurance coverage of up to P20 million.

Metrobank Gold Card

The Metrobank Gold Card comes in either Mastercard or Visa versions. It has embedded chip technology that can help protect you from credit card cloning.

Holders of the Metrobank Gold Card can earn 1 point for every P20 spent. These points can be used to redeem airlines from three major airlines: Philippine Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airline, Singapore Airlines.
